We train and play with one squad of 25+ players benefiting from excellent coaching and rotation of players to ensure that everyone gets to represent the club in friendlies and league matches. With specialist Forwards and backs coaches we ensure that there is focus in developing and encouraging all players to play to heir full potential by developing a great team spirit and nurture a. lifetime of enjoyment  and appreciation of the game. We believe in playing to win and playing to have fun which has enabled a great team spirit to develop at our age group which has been the foundation to the success achieved to date.

As an Age group squad we are looking to build on the success that we experienced in 2008/9 season and continue to develop all players in the squad to play to their highest potential playing at the highest level in Surrey in Division 1.  We are fortunate to have some excellent coaches which sets the highest standard of rugby during training and playing matches and are confident that we will have another successful season.

Our squad has been very successful over recent seasons playing Youth rugby in Surrey Division 1 and combined with friendly fixtures ensure that we have enough competitive fixtures to ensure that the whole squad can play competitive rugby and represent the club. We believe in a  focused approach based around a squad format where ALL players form an equal part of the team, we don't run secondary teams where players train based on ability in fixed teams, we believe that by training together as one unit we have an inclusive environment that allows the boys to learn from each other and improve by training with better players. This approach also allows continuity and knowledge going into match days any players can easily slot into the team understanding what is required of them.

We are always looking to increase the strength of the squad and new players are always welcome!

We train on Sundays at Whiteley Village (9:45 am for a 10:00 am start, finishing at midday) when we do not have fixtures.

We also plan to run a pre-season Youth training camp mid to end July 2009 in conjunction with Surrey which will be hosted at Whiteley Village and open to players from inside and outside the club. Details of our pre-season fitness training training schedule to be confirmed.

In the 2008 / 09 season playing in our second season of Youth rugby at Under 14 age group we had another successful season playing friendly and league fixtures. The squad achieved another hugely successful season achieving second place in Surrey Under 14 League 1, losing one game and drawing one other but more importantly the squad have continued to develop playing flowing committed rugby beyond their years.

We would like to confirm a result for Reeds Under 15s!

Reeds 49, Worthing 0, Friendy at Home on 20 September 2009,

Match report:

Reeds U15s were hosts to Worthing who travelled up from the South coast and it was time to get the season underway with our first friendly at home against a Worthing side freshly promoted to the Sussex Div 1, having ended as Div 2 champions at the end of last season. Welcome to Alex, George, Johnny, Cameron and Liam who all played their first games for Reeds today along with a welcome back to Josh who returns after a couple of years, we hope that you enjoyed yourselves and we’ll see you regularly in Reeds shirts!

Reeds dominated in a one sided game scoring nine tries against a Worthing side that did not give up. A comprehensive win that provides a solid platform to build on for the rest of the season, however satisfying the win there are plenty of areas for improvement over the next few weeks before our first league game especially with number of injuries in squad that we have currently.

Sunday, 7th February 2010 vs Old Cats

The result for this game was a draw 10 - 10.  Reeds scored 2 tries by Mike Legg and Joel Hodgson.  This result was enough to ensure Reeds U15 B's will win League Div 5.

11th Oct friendly vs Vandals

With the ground soft at last, it was time to visit Vandals and play in a friendly game (well as friendly as any local derby can be!) a game played in three twenty minute sessions. Welcome and well played to James McKie who played his first game for Reeds. Another successful  outing by Reeds U15 with a resounding victory 43 -5.

The most satisfying part of the game today for me was the improvement over the course of the three sessions was clear to see, the forwards played tighter as the game progressed, improved at the breakdown and retained possession, and the handling in the backs, along with lines of running improved as well. Man of the match, as awarded by head coach, was Max Penfold in the backs and Simon Woollatt in the forwards but the effort by everyone was great to see and hopefully will provide a platform for next week.

10th Oct League game vs Richmond.

After a series of friendlies it was time for the first league game of the season against Richmond, the sun was out and the stage set for a thrilling encounter of two sides that both expect to be challenging at the top of the table come Easter. Inspite of Richmond scoring first Reeds led at half time 14-3 before Richmond scored with 5 minutes to go to win 15-14. Reeds fought back from the restart taking the game to Richmond but time was against them and it was Richmond who victorious by the narrowest of margins.

After the disappointment of failing to secure a win there are huge positives to take from a fiercely contested encounter where fine rugby was played by two of the best U15 sides in Surrey and I am sure we will come out stronger when we next take to the field.

Sunday 1st Nov friendly vs Ruislip (Home), Reeds lost 17-10

The weather was as predicted on the wetter side of dreadful but it takes more than a bit of bad weather to stop a game at Reeds! So the hastily arranged friendly fixture against the newly promoted to Middlesex and Herts division 2 side Ruislip went ahead inspite of the bad weather. A big welcome to George Matthews who played his first game for Reeds today.

Reeds started well and were quick to get the ball wide in the opening exchange and allow the half back pairing of Alex Keefe and Tom Mclean to settle down and the new centre pairing  of Adam Hackett and Naill Barry to develop their understanding. Something did work as Reeds were first to score after a ruck on the Ruislip 5yd line allowed quick ball to Tom Mclean to power over the Ruislip line to score overcoming of the efforts of three Ruislip defence who were unable to stop him. Good to see Josh Hyatt starting on the left hand wing and James Beauchamp and Will Ambidge starting on the flank.

Ruislip came back strongly and playing with the wind behind them and down hill pressurized the Reeds defense and were the next score after a scrum on the Reeds 5yd line their No 8 picked up from the base of the scrum to score in the left hand corner.  Reeds however responded well taking the play back to Ruislip and after another strong run from Tom Mclean and offload to Naill Barry before Cameron Pollock passed the ball to Adam Hackett to score on the left hand side from close range. 10-5 to Reeds. Inspite of more pressure from Ruislip Reeds went into halftime 10-5 up after a tense half.

After the break Reeds started well with good pressure but would have gone down to a break away try was it not for a try saving tackle by George Matthews on the right hand touchline. Both sides fought for the ball at the breakdown and it was Ruislip No 8 who succeeded to score in the right hand side and even managed to run the ball back towards the posts which allowed the try to be converted 12-10 to Ruislip. It was Ruislip who showed the desire to win and scored again this time on the left hand corner. 17-10 to Ruislip. Reeds came back strongly as the clock ticked down and Max Penfold went agonizingly close on the right but he was adjudged to be inches short of the line. So it was a disappointed Reeds that returned to the changing room to having come second to a determined Ruislip side..

Sunday 22nd Nov friendly against Esher (away). Reeds leading 15 – 5 when game stopped for injury

Hopefully everyone has dried out and warmed up after this morning’s visit to Esher, I am pleased to report that the Esher prop who was knocked out is recovering and is staying overnight in hospital as a precautionary measure and has reportedly no lasting injury other than concussion so will hopefully be back playing early in the New Year.

So to the match report……we thought that the match may be a good test even before the weather decided to chuck it down and the standard of rugby played by Esher has definitely improved since Minis!  Clearly Esher were up to show that there is not too much difference between Surrey division 1 and 2, so the only remaining question was would Reeds be up for it? A big Reeds welcome to Ben Chadwick who played his first game for Reeds today.

From the start both sides struggled to control the ball in the wet conditions, but as the sun came out it was Reeds who were first to score after a couple of penalties it was when a Cameron Pollock charge from the tap penalty was off-loaded for Simon Woollatt to carry over the line for the first score of the day. 5-0 to Reeds. The conditions were difficult with handling difficult for both sides as cold hands and wet ball did not make handling any easier but it was clearly a game for the forwards and there were big tackles being made all over the pitch as both sides looked to take advantage. Quick ball from Sam Hewitt to James Lang at fly half was used to try and get the backs away but inevitably the boot with the wind behind that allowed Reeds to gain good territory. James Beauchamp’s knee took the full force of an Esher tackle resulting in the first injury of the day and having to be carried off the pitch allowing Matt Eldridge to come on as cover. Esher were next to get on the score sheet after quick hands from a penalty deep in their half allowed their right winger to avoid the Reeds defense and run almost the length of the pitch to score under the posts. 5-5 game on!

From the restart and after a crunching tackle from Sam Hewitt on the receiver Reeds put Esher immediately on the back foot and after a series of penalties, a quick tap penalty from Sam Hewitt 10 yds out was offloaded this time to Adam Hackett who powered over the line on the right hand corner to score. 10-5 to Reeds.

Reeds continued to exert pressure and good work by the forwards won good ball with George Frampton, Mike Bird and Liam Dellner when he got on and Kasey Purvor especially winning ball at the breakdown or causing Esher indiscipline to be penalized and it was just before the halftime whistle that Adam Hackett got his second try of the half from an off load from Sam Hewitt again to take the score at halftime to be 15 – 5 to Reeds.

Sunday 13th Dec friendly against Haslemere (away). Reeds win 38-0

Reeds U15s dominated from the start to end up worthy winners of encounter against Haslemere with a 38-0 win. In doing so end 2009 in victorious style and it ensures that we can look forward to 2010 with confidence after another great team performance as the squad gets stronger and stronger the more games that are played with James Hart and Ben Chadwick scoring a couple of tries each and with Jack McLean and Sam Hewitt scoring one each. count.
