David Smith is the Head Coach for the Reeds Under 8’s, having being the Head Coach with this group of players since their U5 days. David is supported by about 20 enthusiastic, supportive and committed Mum’s and Dad’s on the coaching front and in terms of administration and social activities.
The Club is operated and managed on a voluntary basis. Parents are very involved with the age group at the Club too, and we need and expect parental support. This involves managing the tuck shop, or kit shop, from time-to-time on practice days, as well as assisting with things like the bbq stand, parking, acting as field marshalls at the annual tournaments hosted by the Club and on Club ‘fun’ days. In addition to this, many of the parents have undertaken the RFU led coach training and refereeing courses, and are qualified to coach the players and referee competitive matches. All coaching is undertaken on a voluntary basis too.

The squad has developed fantastically over the seasons, and enjoys great success both on and off the pitch. We have in excess of 60 regular players, and continue to welcome new players to the squad at the Club regardless of whether they have previous rugby experience. Our training is open to all at the Club’s grounds every Sunday at 09:30 from the start of September to the end of April. New players and always welcome.
The Reeds environment is fantastic, both for players, parents and siblings. We aim to offer a family-inclusive experience. We play rugby with a focus on fun, teamwork, sportsmanship and respect. We are committed to ensuring that all players that regularly attend training sessions have the opportunity to represent Reeds in non-contact tag rugby tournaments at some point in the season. Participation of all players, regardless of ability, in our success as an age group and a Club is another important element of what we aim to achieve. Last season as the U7 squad we approached the season with a similar philosophy, had an absolutely cracking time on and off the field, and broke the Club record as an age group in terms of number of tournaments won! So, we believe that this approach to rugby is one that offers a great deal of enjoyment and success.
The Under 8’s can be found towards the wooded area to the left of the Clubhouse every Sunday morning from September to the end of April, and the sessions run from 09:30 until 11:30. Training sessions are not held over the Christmas/New Year break, or over the Easter weekend. Please check the schedule roster too, in order to ensure that we don’t have an away training session planned with another club.

As well as the main club activities, we also like to get together as a year and as such we organise semi-regular parent social events. Parents do get to know one another well over the course of the season, particularly through festival and tournament participation.
We don’t currently have any activities scheduled for the low season.
While we achieved remarkable success on the field as U7s, our true success was the manner in which we achieved this. In a friendly and fun atmosphere, 64 players participated in a tournament at some point during the season out of a total of 65 registered players in the year. Of this, over 40 players participated in 3 or more tournaments in the seasion, with half of the players participating in more than 6 tournaments during the season. In total, we entered 29 teams in 22 tournaments during the season. We achieved the following notable successes during the year:
RUNNER'S-UP - SURREY B (B team)
Champions - KCS A (A team)
Champions - Chobham B (B team)

Welcome back to all players and parents. It was great seeing so many of you back at Reeds on Sunday, and it was good to welcome some new faces to training too! We had in excess of 60 players at training on Sunday, so it looks like this will be another cracking year.
As we move up the age groups, we also need greater parental support and involvement in the Club’s activities. We have more players than the other age groups, which also means that we should have more parents available to support the Club. We have been allocated tuck shop duty for the month of September. Denise Falworth has volunteered to manage activities, but does need support over the next 4 weeks please, particularly from 11:30 to 12:00. Please assist Denise in supporting your Club and contribute to the enjoyment of the players on Sundays.
We also have the Reeds festivals approaching in October, and will require parent’s to assist us in our allocated activities at these events too. Everything at the Club is undertaken on a volunteer basis, and we need more volunteers to ensure that we can make it all possible for the players.
We will see you all at training again on Sunday at 09:30. Bring on the season as U8s!
